UNIDO Beijing chief admonished for Lumbini deal
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) said it has take action against the head of Beijing based Investment Promotion Office, Yuandong Hu, for making a controversial agreement with the Asia Pacific Exchange and Cooperation Foundation (APECF) regarding a three-billion-dollar fundraiser aimed for a special project in Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, in Nepal. UNIDO headquarters has written to its office in Beijing informing that the agreement with APECF was invalid.
And, a day later:
The UNIDO headquarters has written to APEC informing that the deal is not acceptable. Nepal’s permanent representative to the UN has hailed the UNIDO move, a source said.
This begins to look like quite a stunt. I wouldn’t be surprised if Beijing pulls the plug now. If not then there is probably more to it than we know.
